PeacePlace2GO-Camp in Johannesburg

„Un-learn poverty - let education drive peace & justice“ from April 14 – 21 2023 in Johannesburg / South Africa

Two digital camps so far happened under the roof of "PeacePlace2GO" since 2021. This year, for the first time, we will hold a face-to-face camp from April 14 to 21, 2023 in Johannesburg / South Africa. Participants will be suggested by partner and sponsoring churches of ELM and they will ideally be already engaged in church work. 

"Un-learn poverty - let education drive peace & justice" is the theme for 2023. We will work together (in English only) on this challenging topic of (in)justices around education and poverty. 

Poverty prevents education and education prevents poverty!

For many people affected by poverty, education is not a priority, given the challenge of having to fight for survival day after day and being confronted with many everyday problems. However, a key to fight poverty lies in more access to education, so that people are given strong tools for more justice and less poverty beyond their individual economic situation.

The focus of this workshop will be on the implementing level. Based on new insights of poverty reduction through education to be worked on together, participants will be invited to develop a project for their own church context. The implementation of this idea within the home churches after the workshop serves as empowerment and enriches the practical work of the local churches. 

Since participants will encourage, inspire and challenge each other, it is desired that all participants have a professional connection to the topic. During the 6 days on site we will hear impulses, visit projects, ask critical questions, reflect together and think anew, so that in the end new visions for more justice in education and poverty will emerge. Last but not least, we will share life and laugh & eat & celebrate together - joyfully living the moment amidst many challenging stories.
