Ethiopia: Training courses motivate commitment

The social work of the Mekane-Yesus Church in Ethiopia is committed to helping people who need support. In order for this to be sustainable, it is important to impart knowledge and to win over people who do persuasive work in their environment.

One of them is Eyasu Sumbu Kassa. He is 40 years old and the father of four girls and three boys. He lives in Biftu and was one of the participants in a training programme on harmful traditions, including the early marriage of children.

This changed his previous attitude and he began to educate people in his community about the resulting problems. This made Eyasu a role model for those around him.

He took a 15-year-old girl out of a marriage ceremony and reported the case to the police. He wants to continue working against early marriage and other harmful traditions in his neighbourhood and has therefore signed up as a volunteer health worker.

Thank you for your donation to help protect people through education and commitment and to enable a better life in the long term!
