South Africa: Following the call

A journey of faith and fellowship – training for lay preachers in South Africa

“Preaching begins long before we step into the pulpit. It begins in listening, in prayer, in humility, and in allowing ourselves to be shaped by God’s grace before we share God's Word with others. The ministry of preaching is about far more than delivering a sermon. It grows out of listening to God's Word together, living in Christian fellowship and trusting in God's grace.” This is how Julia Immenkamp-Hill from Cape Town describes a training session organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (Kap-Kirche).

Five intensive days – filled with learning, fellowship and spiritual growth. Through teaching, practical exercises and constructive feedback, the participants deepened their understanding of preparing and structuring sermons, leading prayers, reading the Holy Scriptures, the order of worship, the celebration of Holy Communion and the responsibilities of the preaching ministry.

The ELM supports the training of lay preachers in its South African partner church with a contribution of 156 euros, or 30 euros per day per participant.
Please contribute with your donation to train more professionally qualified volunteers, thereby strengthening the Church’s ministry to its members and to society – both internally, by giving expression to the ‘priesthood of all believers’, and externally through its public impact.
