South Africa: New start for theological training in Umphumulo

Since 2024, certificate and diploma degrees have again been offered to students from ELCSA and other churches in the ecumenical community.

Further training for ELCSA pastors will also be offered there - especially on burning social issues and the church's response to them - such as gender-based violence, the climate crisis, corruption, etc.
In addition, lay members of the church are to be trained (preachers, lectors, church council members, Sunday school teachers, etc.). Hybrid teaching methods will be used (online and face-to-face courses).

The opening of the Lutheran Theological Seminary (LTS) has finally enabled the ELCSA to secure its own young theological talent after seven long years without an appropriate theological training centre. This is also happening in an ecumenical opening for students from other churches.
At the end of January 2025, a further 19 students were ceremoniously welcomed. They join the existing study group of 23 students.

The ELM has supported the furnishing of the training centre - from furniture for classrooms and dormitories, refrigerators, lawnmowers, computers and much more. The ELM also supports staffing at management level (headmaster, two lecturers) as well as for the secretariat, library, cleaning and security staff.
Your donation supports this important task and ensures well-trained staff in the congregations!
