Donate sustainably & responding to emergency

"Martha, Annie and three other young women know from their own experience what the work of the nutrition centre in Mbidi means for children," reports Pastor Bertha Mukhondya from Malawi.

The young women grow vegetables to give malnourished children the food they need. They gratefully want to give something back because they themselves were dependent on this supplementary food around 20 years ago.
For me - as the new director of the ELM - this is a good example of why it is worth donating to projects run by our partner churches. These young women were fed and were able to go to school because the partner church in Malawi was able to organise support thanks to donations. Commitment to education has consequences, because this is how people become independent. That is sustainable commitment to fellow human beings!
Another reason to donate is emergencies. Unfortunately, there are always emergencies in our partner churches. Last year's devastating cyclones in Malawi in particular left people in need. As fellow human beings, we should not turn a blind eye to this - with your support, we have done just that: with food and prevention against infection with the serious diarrhoeal disease cholera.
Donations harbour a secret. Because when you give, you don't get less, you get back more than you gave. It starts when you receive a thank-you letter. Sometimes it makes me a little thoughtful, because I am praised - even if I have the impression that I haven't given as much as I could have. And yet I still get thanks in return.
Donations sometimes have other consequences too: When children are supported, you also instil in them the idea: "When you grow up, you can do something for others." This is sustainability, as the example from Malawi shows.
Donating is contagious! If it's good for others, it's good for me too. That's why joy for me means doing something for others. Because it makes me happy. Treat yourself to this joy with your donation!
We need your donations in Malawi and also for people in other countries of our partner churches. If one of the countries of our partner churches is particularly close to your heart, simply state the name of the country in your transfer.

THANK YOU for all your support through your prayers and donations!
