... through good agricultural yields for families on Lake Malawi

In the communities around Nkhata Bay on Lake Malawi, many households are increasingly feeling the effects of climate change, erratic rainfall and declining soil fertility. Unreliable harvests are leading to growing insecurity and lower incomes – particularly for women, children and young people affected by poverty.

In the Nkhata Bay church district, the partner church in Malawi is working with rural village communities to organise initiatives aimed at ensuring food security, generating income and helping 100 households adapt to climate change.

The focus is on adapting field irrigation, improving farming methods and poultry farming. People are trained in organic farming and water conservation and use solar-powered water pumps for their fields. Other tools, as well as seeds and fertiliser, are also provided. They manage the infrastructure through cooperatives and ensure equitable access.

For this project, the partner church requires just over 20 euros per month in support for each family involved.
