The smell of bread, freshly baked in the oven, wafts through the Church of São Lucas in Porto Alegre. During the family service, the choir and the drama group also brought joy and liveliness to the occasion.
Following the sermon on Elijah’s visit to a widow and accounts of the early church (cf. 1 Kings 17:8–16 and Acts 2:41–47), the service concluded with a brunch.
Afterwards: “Everyone took a sandwich home with them to share with someone and thus pass on God’s love,” said Rev. Scheila dos Santos Dreher.

This is just one example of the many activities taking place in the congregations of the ELM’s partner church in Brazil. Many of these rely on the commitment of volunteers.
