South Africa: Training for a new life
Social work programmes offered by the Lutheran Community Outreach Foundation (LCOF) to build a new livelihood
"I can't express in words how grateful I am to the Outreach Foundation for the opportunity to discover and acquire new skills. Without this opportunity, I probably wouldn't have got this job, made new friends or gone back to school!
A big thank you also goes to my mum. She had heard about the social work of the Outreach Foundation and urged me to go there."
Kelly Dube came to South Africa from Zimbabwe with her family in 2008 to live a better life. She lives with her parents in Hillbrow.
On the beautician course, Kelly Dube learnt everything she needed to give customers a professional manicure or apply full make-up. She also received initial equipment to start her own small business.
The hard work and dedication she put into this course was definitely not in vain. A modelling agency heard about it and saw the amazing work she was doing. The agency decided to hire her almost immediately! This young woman definitely has a bright future ahead of her.
