Janepher Munkhondia, Education and Scholarship Manager of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM)
Our scholarship programme relates to several sustainability goals:
No poverty (SDG 1)
By providing financial support for the education of orphans, vulnerable children and children of peers through the scholarship programme, the project contributes to reducing poverty by providing students with skills and knowledge that will improve their future prospects.
Quality education (SDG 4)
The scholarship programme directly contributes to quality education for marginalised students in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi and in Malawi as a whole. Because the church, with the support of the ELM, covers tuition fees where necessary, the project helps to ensure inclusive and equitable education for all.
Gender equality (SDG 5)
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi promotes gender equality through the scholarship programme, as it offers scholarships to both boys and girls regardless of their gender. This is in line with SDG 5, eliminating gender inequalities in education and empowering girls to overcome barriers to learning and realise their full potential.
Reduce inequalities (SDG 10)
The ELCM scholarship programme reduces inequalities in access to education by providing financial support to disadvantaged students. This helps to bridge the gap between privileged and marginalised
individuals, promote social inclusion and reduce inequalities in education.
