"Time to change"
What does a missionary organisation do in the 21st century?
Admittedly, for many people our institution seems a little "out of date." After all, didn't missionaries cooperate with the 19th century colonists and then still try to convert as many of the locals as possible, even when the colonial age was finished?
Yes, we should take a critical look at the history of missions. We want to learn from the mistakes of the past. At the same time, as Christians we still believe in the liberating message of the Gospel for all people in the 21st century and that God can become visible in the "here and now."
That is why Christians are not indifferent to the circumstances in which people live. Poverty, exploitation, discrimination, injustice - these are our issues right up to the present day. You can find out how we as a missionary organisation make our faith effective in today's world in the "time to change" exhibition. With this exhibition, the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony (ELM) has created a place in the Ludwig-Harms-Haus in Hermannsburg that makes its work and that of its global partner churches visible. We hope you enjoy your visit to the "time to change" exhibition and the following pages.
