175 years of Mission from Hermannsburg: building bridges together
A rousing gospel concert to kick things off, a successful anniversary celebration with a festive open-air service and a closing Sunday service in the Große Kreuzkirche - these were the three building blocks that made up the 2024 Mission Festival of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony.
On the second day of the festival, Dr. Emmanuel Kileo and Holger Nerlich were also installed, respectively, as Director and Managing Director by the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, Ralf Meister; in addition almost 20 young people were sent to partner churches around the world for a year of voluntary service.
And what remains after the mission festival? In any case, a respectable amount of donations for those affected by the floods in southern Brazil. 7,422.31 Euros ended up in collection bags and offering boxes or were transferred digitally over the three days of the festival. In the meantime, the ELM has already transferred 75,000 Euros to the partner church in Brazil as emergency aid. Further donations will be used, for example, to support the repair and reconstruction of parsonages, parish rooms, churches and diaconal organisations.
