Building bridges together

Welcome to the Mission Festival from 21-23 June in Hermannsburg!

For 175 years, we have seen ourselves as bridge builders to people in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Inspired by personal experience, Ludwig Harms wanted to bring the Gospel to the whole world. Since then, the mission has changed. We do not bring the gospel to the people, but discover it together with our partners from the global church. This is a good reason to celebrate:

Friday, 21 June, 19:00: "AfroGospel Voices"

Gospel concert in the Große Kreuzkirche in Hermannsburg.

A festive atmosphere to kick off the Mission Festival: this choir with its professional singers and choirmaster Folarin Omishade conjures up joy, spirituality, but also temperament and soul on stage with a great deal of emotion. The audience can expect a very diverse repertoire of gospel songs: from well-known classics and gospel hits to contemporary gospel and spirited African origin gospel, the AfroGospel Voices present a mixture of highlights.

Saturday, 22 June, 9:30 to 14:00: Mission Festival

on the grounds of the FIT; in case of bad weather in the St. Peter-Paul Church. We celebrate with international guests and Bishop Ralf Meister.

The change in the mission is also reflected in the fact that, for the first time in the history of the Hermannsburg Mission, we have a director from the Global South, Dr Emmanuel Kileo. Together with Holger Nerlich as the new Managing Director, he will be inaugurated by Ralf Meister, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover and Chairman of our Governing Board.

Sunday, 23 June, 10:00 a.m.: Church service

(Große Kreuzkirche, Junkernstrasse 17).

The Mission Festival will conclude with a church service. The Brazilian pastor and ecumenical co-worker of the ELM, Cristina Scherer, will preach.

In keeping with tradition, the Mission Festival will be accompanied musically by the combined brass bands of the Hermannsburg congregations.
