South Africa: Meals and care for children in Paarl

"I only find work during the harvest season. Sometimes I don't have any bread in the house. That's why it's good that my children get food from the soup kitchen every week."

... a mother summarises her thanks for the project.

The community in Paarl (near Cape Town) is a social hotspot: a high unemployment rate, because families are largely dependent on seasonal labour on the wine and fruit plantations, leads to poverty as well as drug and alcohol abuse for some. The neighbourhood was built during the apartheid era. Corrugated iron huts have been added to the now dilapidated social housing.

"Children are our future! They need a good start in life," says Christa Böhmer, who organises meals for children in Paarl, South Africa. Many people there suffer from poverty, unemployment and high crime rates. The team offers children a home. Twice a week, they cook a healthy meal for around 250 children and distribute clothes and soap.
This only costs around 20 euros per week for ten children. "We can't change the whole world, but we can make a difference in one place."

Please make a donation to help children stay healthier, go to school and be able to provide for themselves in the long term thanks to an adequate education!
