India: Support has started!

At least 30 people have been killed and thousands displaced following severe flooding in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Heavy, prolonged rainfall since July 21, 2024, has led to flooding as the Godavari River has burst its banks again. The districts around Velerupaadu and Aswaraopeta in the areas of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (GSELC) were particularly affected. Several villages were cut off from the roads. 12 villages with congregations of the GSELC have been destroyed, as have houses, roads and fields with crops. Many animals have also perished in the floods. Crops were destroyed along with the fields, leaving many without a chance to feed their families.
The government has started to distribute relief supplies. Camps have been set up in some areas. But that is not enough.
That is why the partner church GSELC is asking for support so that at least 250 families can receive rice, lentils, oil, chili and coriander powder for a month.
After the initial emergency aid, the reconstruction of houses and infrastructure will have to follow, as well as the restoration of destroyed fields. There is a long way to go!

Your donation will help the partner church to provide for 250 families. For around 100 euros, 5 families can already be supported. Thank you!
