India: Memorandum of Understanding signed with the UELCI

On 17 February 2026, the ELM and the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India strengthened their cooperation.

On 17 February 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ev.-luth. Mission in Lower Saxony and the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India (UELCI) at a hybrid meeting. The UELCI is the umbrella organisation of 14 Lutheran churches in India with around 4 million members. Three partner churches of the ELM are also represented: Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC), South Andhra Lutheran Church (SALC) and Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church (GSELC). Together with the director Joshua Peter and the project coordinator Samuel Logan, the contract was solemnly confirmed during a board meeting. ELM and UELCI have been working together for many years, with the UELCI supporting its member churches in particular in their commitment to life and justice and working to improve living conditions across the country. In doing so, it is increasingly developing into a partner network that strengthens churches through process guidance, support and mentoring.
