Doing good - ELM receives first electric vehicle as a donation
Sparkasse Celle-Gifhorn-Wolfsburg is setting an example for social commitment and sustainability in the Celle region and has donated a new Volkswagen ID.3 to five organisations, including ELM.
ELM employees are often on the road - and will be doing so more sustainably and with fewer emissions in future. The new vehicle will serve us well in future, because:
We will be travelling to events and reporting on the work of ELM. And we invite people to get involved - in projects against poverty, exploitation, discrimination and injustice. We network with other stakeholders - also in the area of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) - and inform supporters in many parts of Lower Saxony.
And in rural areas, we also need to be mobile at times when there is little public transport available but guests from partner churches around the world are visiting.
"The electric car is a great fit for us," says Waldemar Rausch, ELM Global Sustainability Officer, "because ...
- Spiritually: As ELM, we are "servants of light" because we work in the name of Jesus, who says of himself: "I am the light of the world!" How wonderful it is to be able to say when I am working in churches or schools: I also came here by virtue of this light.
- Ecological: Driving with renewable "fuel" feels much better these days than with fossil fuels, which weigh on my conscience when I look at the climate - I drive to my mission much more relaxed and that is always good for the people I work with - and myself, not to forget.
- Economical: Solar energy will soon be "free to the door". As soon as the planned photovoltaic system is installed, we will be able to use more funds for other tasks that directly affect people - and not just a car.
The ELM would like to thank Sparkasse Celle-Gifhorn-Wolfsburg (which also manages the ELM donation account) for this important support for our work! A great Christmas present.
