Called to be church: Connect - revitalise - renew

The ELM's Partnerchurch Consultation in Johannesburg, South Africa, starts on 29 August

You can only be 175 years old if you change or renew something from time to time. This is not the only reason why this year's consultation of the ELM and its international partner churches is being held under the motto: Called to be Church: Connect - Revitalise - Renew

The ELM's partnerchurches are 19 Protestant churches in 15 countries on four continents. This is also the reason why the delegation from Hermannsburg (in Germany) travelled so far to South Africa. The partners met here two years ago.

Starting with the search for themselves, the search for the church, and finally the question of why the church (sometimes) cannot be what it would like to be. These are the questions that the partners want to explore together:

    Who are we?

    What is the church?

What prevents us from realising our visions?

How do we live out who we are?

In the end, the aim is to find impulses and visions for the community and the church.

The members of the partnerchurches refer to biblical foundations and want to follow Jesus and his image of the church. Especially in today's world, where life is threatened by various crises, churches have an immense importance to offer a safe space and create hope for future generations.

The path to great change often begins with small steps - and sometimes long journeys.
