Online seminar - 14 February 2026
This ELM seminar series deals with the future viability of churches internationally. Together with Christians from the international ecumenical movement, we seek creative and hopeful solutions to typical problems facing our church communities. This seminar unit is about fasting: “So we fasted and implored our God …“ (Ezra 8,23). Is there something like spiritual discipline? Is fasting a helpful element of being a Christian?
We are pleased to once again welcome two wonderful speakers who will engage us on this topic:
Ms. Lungile Nene (South Africa) is a Chartered Accountant. She spent her youth in ELCSA, a partner church of ELM. In Pretoria she joined a charismatic church where she is a member of the prayer team.
Rev. Thomas Capelle (Germany), a retired pastor, regularly combines fasting and praying in his spiritual life. For many years he served as pastor of the Hordorf-Essehof-Wendhausen parish (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brunswick) in Germany.
