Ethiopian women have the same right to land ownership and land use as men. In practice, however, Ethiopian women do not have the same opportunity to own and use land as their male counterparts, partly due to social norms and patriarchal structures. Of course, that's not how it works! This is why the ELM supports the committed development work of the Mekane-Yesus Church in Ethiopia (EECMY DASSC) in the "Women's Land Rights" project. "Women's Land Rights" helps to reduce the social pressure on women, to reduce the dependence of women on their families and to overcome the fear of social marginalisation. So that women can also do their own thing (in terms of agriculture) and dare to demand their rights.
