South Africa: Shoes for schoolchildren in Durban
A PeacePlace2GO-Camp project in Durban supports children from disadvantaged families in attending school.
Everyday life for many children in the settlements around Durban in South Africa is characterised by challenges. Every morning, they make their way to school. Although their school uniform gives them a sense of belonging, it is old and tattered. Their parents struggle every day to put enough food on the table. There is no money for school supplies or new shoes for the school uniform.
Inspired by the PeacePlace2GO-Camp, Pastor Ntuthuko Nkosi is organising a glimmer of hope in the midst of this harsh reality. 800 children in the townships of Umlazi, Mgababa, Folweni and Kwamakhutha will not only receive new school shoes, but also urgently needed psychosocial support. These children come from single-parent families and many are struggling with the effects of poverty, violence, alcoholism and drug abuse.
Through your donation, Pastor Nkosi and the staff of his parish can not only provide these children with school shoes, but also organise home visits to ensure that they receive the support they need to succeed in school and thus develop a perspective for their lives. They work hand in hand with teachers and over 40 school headmasters to identify the children who need help the most.
With your support, they can break the cycle of poverty and give many children a chance to realise their dreams and build a better future. Three children can be accompanied for as little as 20 euros.
This is a project of the PeacePlace2GO of ELM. In case there are more donations than needed for this project, we will use your donation for other projects of the PeacePlace2GO.
