Who carries hope into a world in transition?
Our international encounter with lay preachers in South Africa has shown: hope needs voices – not only ordained ministers, but also many committed volunteers. People in the midst of everyday life interpret Scripture, accompany congregations, and speak of God’s future in uncertain times. It is precisely their closeness to daily reality that makes their preaching so credible. In this way, mission happens quietly and powerfully – Sunday after Sunday.
Our “small intercultural competence training” reminds us that global encounters always involve learning as well.
The debate on fracking shows how closely Christian hope and responsibility for God’s creation are connected.
In the “Far West” of Brazil it becomes clear: vocation can mean learning to love suitcases and setting out on the journey.
And a sermon at the State Garden Show encourages us to rediscover the power of small gestures in everyday life.
Perhaps all these stories are held together by one common thread: God calls people – in the midst of change – so that hope may find a voice.
In this spirit we look forward with gratitude and expectation to the induction of our new Director Holger Siebert on Pentecost Monday.
