At the moment, Germany is experiencing the longest days of the year. The sun rises just before 5 am and remains in the sky until almost 10 pm. So there’s plenty of time to read a newsletter.
This time, we’d like to take you along to meet some guests from the Central African Republic, a country where, away from the media spotlight, people are grappling with existential concerns. We were struck by how the staff of the Evangelical Lutheran Church there draw strength from their faith for their work in church leadership and healthcare.
Here locally in the Heide region, the ELM took part in Christopher Street Day in Celle for the first time. ‘God loves queer people too. Diversity is not a contradiction to the Christian faith – it is an expression of it,’ was the message. This will also be the focus of our third international Gender Summer Academy, which begins next week in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Last but not least, we look back on an event that was of particular significance to us and our global partners: the appointment of Holger Siebert as Director of the ELM.
As always, at the end of this newsletter you will find a way to support the work of our partner churches financially – this time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where children, young people and families are offered a sense of community and encouragement for their daily lives through the work of the local church.
Yours, Ulrich Meyer-Höllings
