in recent weeks, we have seen how vibrant God's global family is and what important impetus comes from women's work. We are particularly grateful for a visit from Bertha Munkhondya, General Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi, with whom we were also able to make a detour to Geneva. Her clear messages, inspiration and experiences have reminded us that mission is not a one-way project, but a mutual giving and receiving. 

A central theme of these encounters was the role of women in the church and society. In Malawi, as here in the UK, women bear enormous responsibility: they shape families, congregations and entire communities. And yet their voices are often still too quiet or are ignored. As a mission organisation, we want to make a conscious contribution to promoting, strengthening and encouraging women to use their God-given gifts. You can also find some great impressions from a retreat weekend with women at Loccum Abbey on the theme of ‘Re-Connect: rooted – connected – alive’. 

It was not only the visit from Malawi that reminded us not to discuss issues of equality and dignity in theory alone, but to live them out in practice: in our projects, in our communication and in our daily interactions with one another. We are convinced that a more just world begins where women and men take responsibility together and stand up for one another. 

We invite you to join us on this journey – in prayer, in support and in active participation. Let us be inspired by the passion of our brothers and sisters from Malawi, so that the Gospel may take concrete shape in matters of justice and dignity.
