Dear readers of the English version of our newsletter, from now on you can also have the ELM website automatically translated into English and a few other languages. Please use the small selection box at the top right of our website.
In life, joy and sadness sometimes lie close together. At ELM it is no different. In the current newsletter, there is a close mix of positive developments and news that leaves us speechless.
Probably the most depressing piece of information that reached us this month was that of a rebel attack on a Lutheran congregation of our partner church in the Central African Republic - shortly after the harmoniously celebrated Easter services. All we can do is express our sympathy to those affected and pray for them.
On the other hand, developments in the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC) in south-east India give cause for hope. Following the inauguration of Bishop Dr Christian Samraj and the election of a church council, the structures of the church have become much more democratic, which is also thanks to the use of new media.
Malawi takes centre stage twice in this newsletter: a state of emergency was declared in the country at the end of March due to widespread flooding following a long drought. Although we are not collecting donations for current emergencies, you can donate to our sustainable projects, for example for photovoltaic systems for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi.
The ELM has started the spring with several events, including a partnership conference and the first event in the new series "For a coffee with ...", in which I was able to present my view of the ELM and mission today. I would also like to share my views on the topic of racism with you; you can read a blog post by the Evangelical Mission Worldwide, which is linked here.
God's blessing - Mungu akubariki - and stay with us.
Yours
Dr Emmanuel Kileo
